Walt Disney World Trip Report: Day 7

Day 7 - March 5

Sometime during the night disaster stuck! Poor Melinda got pretty sick, though I didn’t find out until the next morning. We had plans to go to the Magic Kingdom, have lunch at Tony’s Town Square and then watch SpectroMagic and Wishes that evening. It was clear that there was no way Melinda was going to be able to go to the parks that morning. Mom and I decided we would go to the Magic Kingdom and let Melinda rest in peace at the hotel. We made sure she had her cell phone with her before we left so we could check up on her. I felt so bad that she was sick and going to miss out on lunch at Tony’s Town Square.

So Mom and I headed out for the Magic Kingdom. Normally when we go to the Magic Kingdom we take the monorail over because Melinda doesn’t really like boats, but since it was just Mom and I we decided to try the ferry. It was so much fun! It was such a smooth ride. The views of the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian hotels were really beautiful. Great way to get photos!

The first thing we wanted to do was go find Tinkerbell at Toontown Hall of Fame. Toontown opens an hour after the rest of the park and in the past you could get in early by taking the train and getting off in Toontown. So we headed to the train. After we boarded the train we found out that they no longer stop in Toontown until it is officially open. D’oh! So there goes that plan. We decide to get off in Frontierland and headed towards Adventureland.

Our first stop was the “Magic Carpets of Aladdin.” I sat in the front this time and got to control how high we flew, while Mom got to control the tilt. This time the tilt feature worked.

After our short flight aboard the magic carpet we decided to go on the Jungle Cruise. There was a bit of a wait, which didn’t make much sense. I never though the Jungle Cruise was that popular. I think we waited about 15 minutes. Our boat driver was HILARIOUS!!!! Of course all of his jokes were terrible one-liners, but the way he delivered them was so funny. Mom and I were both laughing quite hard. I think I enjoyed the Jungle Cruise better here than at Disneyland. Both are fun, but I liked the tombs and that here. And the elephants bathing in the water are so cute!

After our trip through the jungles, we decided to head towards Fantasyland. The line for Snow White was less than 5 minutes, so we decided to go on that since the wait times had been pretty long the other day when we went to the Magic Kingdom. I think I like Walt Disney World’s Snow White better than at Disneyland, though Disneyland’s warp 5 ride is kind of fun, but I think Walt Disney World’s tells more of the story of Snow White.

When we got off Snow White we headed towards Winnie the Pooh. The line was pretty long, so we opted to get fast passes. We got a surprise fast pass for Mickey’s Philharmagic. It was then that we spotted Alice and the White Rabbit. One of my favorite photos from our 1982 trip is of me with the White Rabbit. I haven’t seen the White Rabbit in any of other trips since than. I quickly got in line. I was so excited. Though kind of bummed that Melinda wasn’t there with us. Alice and the White Rabbit were super nice. I learned that those of us from Michigan live in our hands! LOL Alice was funny. She didn’t want to sign the autograph book anywhere near the Queen the Hearts.

By this time we were getting pretty hungry since we didn’t eat breakfast before we left. We decided to get a thing of fries from The Village Fry Shoppe. Not the most nutritious food, but we didn’t want to eat too much before lunch since we had 1:00 pm reservations for Tony’s Town Square. After we finished munching on the fries we headed to Winnie the Pooh to use our fast passes. While we were in line Mom realized she didn’t have her glasses case with her regular glasses in it. I decided to go back and look where we were sitting to see if I could find them. I searched the tables, the area around the line and all the area in between, but couldn’t find anything. I was getting a bit panicked that they were lost forever when I found them sitting up on top of the trash container. Someone must have found them and put them there! I was so realized to have found them. With the glasses in my hand, I headed back to Winnie the Pooh where Mom was waiting for me. So that potential disaster was averted!

With her glasses now, we finally able to get on the ride. I really like this ride, though it kept stopping and breaking, which was such a disappointment. Though I did see the photo of Mr. Toad handing over the deed to Owl. I read about it after our 2007 trip and found it, but wasn’t quick enough with the camera to get a photo.

Following our journey through the Hundred Acre Woods we headed to use our Mickey’s Philharmagic fastpasses. Along the way we stopped for some photos with the Sword in the Stone, which neither of us were strong enough to pull out. Dang it! :)

When Mickey’s Philharmagic was over it was getting close to time for lunch at Tony’s Town Square. While walking along Main Street Mom mentioned the chocolate covered strawberries she had gotten there on our 1987 visit and as we were walking past the Main Street Confectionery we saw them dipping the strawberries. So being the nice daughter that I am, I then went in and got some strawberries for Mom and some for me as well, though we decided to take them back to the hotel to eat after lunch.

Yummy! Chocolate covered strawberries!

We then walked over to Tony’s and checked in for our reservation. It felt so strange being there without Melinda. We had called her before lunch to see if she was feeling any better and she felt somewhat better. For lunch Mom ordered the shrimp Caesar salad and I ordered the roast beef Panini of the day. Both the entrees were excellent! Though the Panini was bigger than my mouth opens! It was HUGE!!! The parmesan chips were really good as well. We both ordered the Strawberry cheesecake, but asked for some boxes for it so we could take it back to the hotel since we didn‘t want to leave Melinda by herself for too long. When they brought it out there was a really cute drawing of Lady and the Tramp out of chocolate on the plate. We had asked the waitress if they had any crackers that we could take back to Melinda thinking that might be ok on her stomach. They didn’t have any crackers, but she brought us some slices of bread, which was really nice. So we took our bread and desserts and left the Magic Kingdom.

We went to Pop and gave Melinda the bread. Mom and I ate our desserts from Tony’s Town Square and the chocolate covered strawberries. The cheesecake was really good, though it wasn’t like a normal cheesecake. After that we each took a nap. When we got up it was time to get ready to go back to the park for SpectroMagic and Wishes.

In 2007 it seemed that each time we were at the Magic Kingdom we were eating dinner during SpectroMagic so we didn’t’ get to see it. So for this trip we definitely wanted to see Spectro. Melinda was feeling slightly better and decided to come with us. So the three of us headed back to the Magic Kingdom. Mom and I convinced Melinda to take the ferry with us, which we thought would be smoother for her than the monorail. She wasn’t too sure about it, but agreed.

When we got to the Magic Kingdom people were already waiting for Spectro to begin. We weren’t sure where would be a good spot and asked a cast member who directed us to a spot near where the parade begins, which was an interesting spot to watch from because you can see the floats coming before they come out. SpectroMagic was AMAZING!!! So many lights! The floats were all gorgeous. I loved how they would turn from all white lights to dazzling colored lights. I was happy too that I got a few decent photos. YAY!

After SpectroMagic was done we walked down Mainstreet to find a spot for Wishes. We ended on a path to the side, which was a fairly good spot. Melinda and I both LOVE Wishes and were really excited. I love the timing of the fireworks to the music. This time I actually saw Tink fly! I missed that part last time. I think the entire time I stood there with my jaw hanging open staring up at the sky in amazement. The fireworks are so pretty, but it is the musical that adds that extra magical touch. I love the finale! Mom really loved Wishes as well! And I managed to get a couple photos.

The worst part of Wishes though is then exiting the park! It took forever to get out of the park and get back to the ferry. We had to wait for a bit for the ferry, but it was better than trying to all cram into a tiny monorail.

It took no time to get back to the car and leave the park though. The next day would be our last day at Walt Disney World. :(

A time to remember

Memorial day is almost here and as many head out for weekends of fun, it is important to remember the reason for the holiday.

Photobucket
Photo of the Soldiers National Monument at Gettysburg National Cemetery in Gettysburg National Military Park, April 2007

Memorial Day began as Decoration Day in May 1868 as a way to honor fallen Union comrades who died during the American Civil War. After the end of World War I it was expanded to honor all American casualities in any war. It is a time to remember all those who gave the last full measure of devotion and gave their lives for their country.

In honor of Memorial Day, I'm giving away a template based on one of my favorite Gettysburg layouts. Which seems fitting since Gettysburg is the bloodiest battle in American history and for many is considered to be the turning point of the Civil War.

Enjoy! Have a wonderful holiday! Thank you to all those who gave their lives for this wonderful nation. You are not forgotten!
