Today's music

The other night I went to a concert in Detroit for one of my favorite bands the Gin Blossoms. They have a new record coming out sometime this year. It peeves me off that even when their new record comes out very few main stream radio stations will even play their music. It seems that most music today is Rap and crappy pop music. Bands that were popular in the 90's get no respect on the radio. The band LIVE put out a great album back in 2003, one of their best since their break through album, but not a single radio station played any of the singles from it. Same with the Counting Crows in 2002. VH1 and MTV used to play their videos all the time back in 1993-94 when "August and Everything After" came out. "Mr. Jones" was all over the radio and TV. The song they did for Shrek got some airplay, but not much. It just irks me that the music I like and the groups that I enjoy get no airplay on the radio. You never even really hear anything about them either unless you go to the band's website. I've signed up for e-newsletters from my favorite bands and singers just so I can know whats going on. I guess I'm just getting old since I really don't care for any of the new music that is played on the radio or TV. Its funny because one of the newer albums I bought I heard the song at the movie theater because they were playing parts of new songs coming out before the previews started. It just really bugs me that there is good music out there, but none of it makes the radio unless its Rap or crappy pop. Oh well. I guess I will be listing to my CDs and thinking of the good old days!
